'Pick of the Season'

               An annual Harvest Festival ‘Pick of the Season 2011’ was held at GranMonte Vineyard and Winery, Khaoyai on the 5th and 6th February. The “Lohitnavy” family Khun Visooth along with his wife Khun Sakuna and Khun Nikki-Visootha, the first female winemaker in Thailand, gladly welcomed a group of more than hundred guests participated in this long awaited event.
 
            The event started off with tour in the beautiful vineyard then into the ‘GranMonte Winery’ led by Khun Nikki, the oenologist/winemaker. Guests were introduced to GranMonte’s new and interesting grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Verdelho. Other usual varietals which produced top quality award winning wines are of course Syrah and Chenin Blanc. Khun Nikki explained the process of making white, red and rose wines to interested guests. Then followed by new vintage wine tasting of GranMonte 2010 Viognier, Heritage 2010 Syrah Viognier, Rose 2010 Syrah and the new exciting to be Sparkling wines.

             The dinner party was at the VinCotto restaurant with live jazz and special guests’ performance, K. Kwanchai Papaspong of Thailand Motor Expo and an introduction of New Release GranMonte 2009 ‘The Orient Reserve’ Magnum red wine, which was very much praised. Once again, wines from Chateau Angelus Magnum 2007 were served during dinner and brunch. The dinner ended with a memorable experience as all guests enjoyed their dance footsteps alongside each other.

            Among distinguished guests that joined the event was K. Winai Sudkaew (Director of Excise Korach), K. Atthapol Wanakitti (Director of TAT Korach), K. Kwanchai Papaspong of Thailand Motor Expo, K.Christine & Octavio Gamarra, K. Luis Fernando Andres Yusta  from Rioja restaurant, Lawrence Civil wine writer, K. James Mullen from BB&B among others.

            The harvest competition was done with time allowance of 45 minutes and one pair of scissors per team. Treasure Hunt game was added to this year’s competition. Poron drinking was also included as usual. The winner for this year competition was Team Baan Kanitha with a total weight of 83.9 kilograms of grapes picked.

            Towards the end of the event Khun Visooth presented the prizes which include GranMonte 2009 ‘The Orient Reserve’ Magnum and Chateau Angelus magnum and more to the winners. The event came to an end with delightful memories among winelovers and friends.
